Just got back earlier from the Pat Metheny "Solo & Trio" show here tonight [went w a jazz/fusion gtrst friend of mine]; w Christian McBride & Antonio Sanchez, & ALL I can muster is [img]eek.gif[/img] - what an incredible, musical show...
Words cannot describe a PM show live...his recordgs are indeed great, but to really appreciate his uncanny musicianship is to see any of his bands LIVE, ESP this one [AWA his latest PM Group]...his live shows are EVEN BETTER than his recordings, WAY better...
Holey Schmidt...a dream gig, for shore...

G3+ [Vai, MacAlpine, Malmsteen, Weiner, & Satch [img]eek.gif[/img] ] - AKA "lotsa straight, blistering, 100mph 32nd-note rock lines [& some fusion overtones]" is the same night as Weck, but he wins hands down on this one [darn it, i hate having to choose]...[besides, DW is all 3 of G3's drummers combined [img]wink.gif[/img] - dohhhh!]

AS played w a more "trad." [jazz] approach to the kit, as opposed to his approach w the "PM Group," which is more of his "fusiony" side [altho you will see elements of BOTH in each sit., but w more trad-jazz in PMG than fusion in PMT]...he is a WAY underrated drummer...he is quite simply, EXTREMELY musical, even when he's being "busy"...& Pat lets him BURN/stretch out live...a stellar drummer, to say the least...& he kills in the contempo-meets-trad latin genre [LF clave on cownell to boot, a la El Negro]...
GO SEE THEM if at all poss...altho the price was a little steep [$42.72 + pkg - whassah, Pat? You chrg more than CHICK EB!], it was indeed a phat, stellar night of intense & beautiful MUSICIANSHIP at the HIGHEST level, technically AND emotionally...their use of dynamics, chordal structure, & improv is nothing short of breathtaking...i got chills at moments...[the ballads are incred AW]...I would describe it as "trad-meets-contempo jazz, swing, & latin w elements of fusion"...PM opened w about 5 solo tunes w just himself on diff gtrs [includg that incredibly unique one w all the frets, you know?]; then the trio came on for 2+ hrs. ...nothing short of breathtaking...a true, class musician....
